Location: We are seeking an experienced Baker (Full Time 30 hours per week) for our Vancouver Convention Centre operation.

Sodexo Live! is the Official Supplier of Food and Beverage Services to the Vancouver Convention Centre. Located on Vancouver’s waterfront with a dramatic mountain backdrop, the award-winning Vancouver Convention Centre offers one of the most beautiful settings in the world. As British Columbia’s flagship convention centre, the facility hosts more than 500 events and welcomes hundreds of thousands of attendees each year, while generating significant economic activity for the Province.

General Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the Pastry Chef in large-scale production for a variety of events.
  • Work independently and without Supervisor to complete the early morning baking of a variety of pastries, muffins, croissants, danish, scones and quick breads for banquet events and retail/café outlets (after training).
  • Working comfortably with spiral and planetary mixers; rack ovens, convection ovens and floor model sheeter.
  • Using creativity for custom client requests and dietary requirements.
  • May set up and oversee buffets
  • Using equipment and machinery safely.
  • May support Pastry Chef and Supervisors to train kitchen staff and oversee kitchen operations
  • Support Pastry Chef to maintain inventory and records of food, supplies and equipment
  • Cleaning all used equipment and workstation.
  • Working within safe food preparation standards and procedures.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Formal Culinary training and Food Safe Certification. Preference for completion of college or other program in cooking, food and beverage or culinary arts program.
  • 3+ years of strong pastry experience working in a large-scale commercial kitchen for high-volume operation such as a high-end hotel or convention centre preferred.
  • Strong focus on service excellence and a positive attitude.
  • Physically fit to stand for long periods of time and lift 20kg regularly throughout a shift.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines in a changing environment.
  • Must be self-motivated and willing to learn.

PAY DETAILS:

$20.75- $23.50 per hour, depending on experience.
