Job Description

    • Location: Schomberg, ON
    • Salary: $40 hourly (To be negotiated) / 40 hours per week
    • Terms of employment: Full time, permanent employment
    • Day: Weekdays, weekends
    • Start date: as soon as possible
    • Vacancies: 1 vacancy

    Responsibilities:

    • Understand construction health and safety policies
    • Participate in on-the-job training when necessary
    • Care for and maintain construction equipment and machines following necessary guidelines
    • Assist machine operators, and other skilled labour tasks when necessary
    • Signal equipment operators to facilitate machinery control, movement, and to ensure safety and accuracy of daily work.
    • Set up traffic signs, control the traffic near the construction zones
    • Prep construction site at the beginning of the day, keep the site in a safe and clean condition
    • Regularly check and maintain site conditions 
    • Document supplies, materials imported/exported off site, assist estimating/ordering materials, equipment for urgent work within budget and in a timely manner
    • Load/offload construction materials; place/organize materials in a designated area according to drawings/plans and/or direction
    • Assemble and disassemble temporary structures, such as trench boxes, ladders, lagging, etc.
    • Control/install/uninstall water pumps, generators, and other equipment for construction purposes.
    • Cut, fill, level materials to required elevations using hand tools,
    • Digging/backfilling trenches and holes; compacting and levelling the earth to designed grade, using rakes, shovels, and other tools
    • Elevation checking using laser; setup/verify work layout using GPS, laser, tape measures etc.
    • Performing demolition, concrete cutting, breaking,
    • Re-verify or re-measure results and define how well the work was achieved
    • Track and report work tasks and provide regular status updates
    • Identify any work issues that may occur; recommend measures and remediate the problems with permissions and instructions from supervisor to improve productivity/quality
    • Suggest methods/procedures to management team to prepare project schedule and task deadlines
    • Work with the management team to establish project schedule, and assign task deadlines
    • Read and understand construction plan, detailed schedule, drawings, standards; inspect field work to ensure work completed meeting all requirements. 
    • Note any discrepancies and report to supervisor
    • Prepare individual work progress reports, daily logs, safety reports
    • Attend onsite meetings when required
    • Self-supervise, co-ordinate and schedule the activities with other co-workers, and contractors
    • Collect site data required for preparation of closeout documentation including as-built

    Qualifications and Skills

    • Be at least 18 years of age.
    • Have High school diploma or higher
    • Have at least 2 years’ experience as a general laborer in the construction industry.
    • Have basic knowledge in construction tools, heavy equipment including loaders, rollers, excavators, dozers, etc.
    • willing to enroll courses to obtain required work certifications including WHIMIS, Working at Heights, Fall Arrest, Confined Space, Work and Safety Awareness 4 Steps
    • Be able to do physical labour tasks
    • Be able to work in all weather, indoor, outdoor
    • Be punctual and reliable, well organized
    • Be able to work a flexible schedule, overtime, weekends if required
    • Be able to effectively communicate in a professional manner
    • Be able to work with minimal supervision.
    • Self-motivated, with strong desire to learn and lead others.
    • Computer literacy including Word, Excel, Gmail is considered an asset.
