Ottawa, January 17, 2025— Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada is introducing new rules to penalize paid representatives (authorized and unauthorized) who break the law when representing applicants and advising them on immigration or citizenship applications. This includes fines of up to a maximum of $1.5 million for advising clients to misrepresent themselves. The regulations would also require that the minister publish information concerning persons found liable for a violation on the department’s website, including the nature of the violation, the amount of the administrative monetary penalty and an indication of whether the person has paid the penalty. Ottawa, January 3, 2025— Farmers and agri-food labourers work hard to produce food for communities in Canada and around the world. Since 2020, the  Agri-Food Pilot  has helped fill labour gaps in this essential sector by giving experienced agri-food workers the opportunity to become permanent residents. Since the launch of the pilot, Canada has welcomed over 4,500 agri-food workers and family members. That includes close to 1,775 workers and family members last year alone, as of the end of November 2024.  Read more
Ottawa, December 13, 2024  — Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is conducting an online survey of newcomers to Canada on their resettlement, settlement and integration experiences. The survey will help IRCC understand which settlement and resettlement assistance services are working well, and what needs improvement. This will help IRCC strengthen its Settlement and Resettlement Assistance Program to better meet the needs of newcomers to Canada.  Read more
Ottawa, November 8, 2024 —Canada is committed to giving all international students equal and fair access to the application process for study permits. The Student Direct Stream (SDS) was launched in 2018 to provide faster processing for eligible post-secondary students. The SDS was eventually opened to legal residents of Antigua and Barbuda, Brazil, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, India, Morocco, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Senegal, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, and Vietnam. Prospective university students from Nigeria had a similar process with the Nigeria Student Express (NSE). Read more
October 24, 2024 – Ottawa –  Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is pleased to release details on the 2025-2027 Immigration Levels Plan (Levels Plan). The Levels Plan includes permanent resident targets and ranges under immigration categories of Economic, Family, Refugees and Protected Persons, and Humanitarian & Compassionate and Other. The 2025-2027 Levels Plan also includes, for the first time, temporary resident targets for international students and temporary foreign workers, constituting a new holistic approach to managed migration. Temporary and permanent residents play a key role in supporting economic growth, addressing labour market shortages, and contributing to the diversity of communities across Canada, including Francophone minority communities outside of Quebec.
